The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) developed practice accreditation in response to the many changes in the approach to health care delivery that have resulted in increased scrutiny of diagnostic evaluation and technical improvements allowing expanded use of ultrasound.  The goal and overall purpose for the accreditation program is the reassurance that accreditation provides by mandating that all ultrasound examinations performed by accredited practices are performed by medical professionals and in a setting that meets AIUM standards.

Maternal Fetal Group, P.L.L.C., has successfully completed the lengthy process for the specialty area of Obstetrical Ultrasound Practice Accreditation and was awarded accreditation in September 1997.  Dr. Lombardi and Dr. Fortunato have also been elected to senior membership status in the AIUM organization, an honor reserved for only the most accomplished members of the AIUM.
